The House of the Scorpion
In my classroom, The House of the Scorpion, has managed to captivate my most reluctant reader. I have been able to use this book to teach many concepts in the English grammar and the use of figurative language due to Nancy Farmer's excellent writing skills. I also feel that Farmer has a captivated audience here in South Texas because the students made connections with many of the topics, such as border violence due to drugs. Also, they were familiar with many of the geographical names used in the book. I will be reading and recommending this book to students for years to come.
